'HELEN: The Journal of Human Exceptionality' features The Last Stamp.

October is Down syndrome awareness month. Our friends at HELEN Journal were kind enough to feature The Roland Center, and the story of Koji, one of our individuals served, in their latest October '26 issue.
Koji's story became the subject of a short documentary we produced titled The Last Stamp, which premiered for the first time in March of 2026, in Los Angeles.
Dr. Rick Rader and Dr. Steven Perlman, chief editors of HELEN Journal are not only two of the most distinguished healthcare professionals in the United States, in their respective fields: they are also two of the greatest champions beating on the drum of health equity, for people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
They, along with their teams and peers in the field, such as Dr. Seth Keller and Dr. Matthew P. Janicki of the NTG (The National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices), Dr. Holly Brown of the Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing, and our friends at DDNA (Developmental disabilities nursing association) and NDSS (National Down Syndrome Society) are among the most vocal, active and passionate advocates for increased, mandated education for healthcare professionals, when it comes to treating people with I/DD.
For our very own Dr. Thomas Buckley, the release and subsequent tour of this film has allowed him to reconnect with peers and forge new alliances, in his decades long battle to improve health, wellbeing and longevity for those living with I/DD.
Dr. Buckley's model of community care for both residential and day programs, brings a sharp, nuanced and clinical approach to caring for individuals living with unique, complex and often misunderstood diagnoses.
The Last Stamp serves as an example of that approach. It is an honor for our work and this story to be featured in HELEN Journal.
